Built on the site of Merle Fogg Field in 1942 as part of the national defense program, NAS Fort Lauderdale served as one of the few schools for training pilots and air crews on the specialized Grumman Avenger TBF/TBM torpedo bomber, which was the largest single engine plane used during the war. Instruction included critical time on the Link Trainer, a flight simulator produced in the early 1930s, an example of which is on display at the museum.
Broward Vetworking is a professional networking group of military veterans in the greater Broward County, Florida area.
